stylish grocery shopping

My stylish son and I often take trips to the grocery store to grab what we need for the week. Usually it happens on a weekend day, preferably a Sunday, while everyone else is sleeping. We do this because waiting in a grocery store checkout line with a child five and under can be extremely difficult. As you can see from the picture above, my dude likes to dress up. I would tell you that he dressed this way just for the video, but that would be lying. As often with many of our videos, I try to capture that magic that is my kids when they are already doing something that’s in line with the Lean Green DAD mission and my son’s “Shopping In Style” spot just seemed to make sense.

Since he has grown quite a bit this year, he no longer sits in the shopping cart and riding on the front of the cart just never works, so this time I actually let him push the cart through the grocery store. As he made his way slowly through the store, up and down different aisles, he almost ran over a nice old lady, hit a pretzel display and appeared to be driving distracted. Nonetheless, he still made it through the produce section like a boss! In the video we only grabbed a few items, but they are his absolute favorites. Here is what he grabbed and why:

Bananas

Full of potassium and totally versatile, we have five to ten bananas on call at our house at any given moment. If your bananas start to turn dark and spotty, get them in the freezer and the next day you don’t have to add ice to your smoothie. Besides putting them in smoothies, I often require a banana to be eaten prior to a snack at our house. It gives incentives for eating their fruit and also is a true test to see how hungry my kids really are when they ask for a snack. Lastly, we love making banana ice cream with frozen bananas.

Organic Apples

We love Gala apples because they are super crisp and juicy. Look for Jazz apples or Honeycrisp apples too! A good apple goes a long way for a snack. If you have already had a bit more sugar than you would have liked for the day and you are looking for something to satisfy that after-dinner sugar craving, an apple will really hit the spot. Add some peanut butter for a protein-packed snack or juice them. Either way, apples rock. Did you know that an apple after dinner will neutralize any bad breath or taste that you might have left from your dinner? Keep that in mind for your next date Mom or Dad!

Noble Juice

Noble Juice is our favorite organic juice hands-down. In fact, there is no “orange juice” in my house…only Noble Juice. In fact, Noble Juice isn’t orange juice at all. It is 100% pure tangerine juice and it is less acidic than its “OJ” counterpart. This juice will give a slightly sweeter, refreshing taste that you will love. There’s absolutely no sugar added and nothing processed in this juice. Noble Juice is 100% Florida tangerine juice that is locally sourced and farmed in Florida! All of our kids drink it and love it!

So next time you are in the store, make sure to pick up these three go-to items and keep them well-stocked at your house. You can find Noble Juice at your local Publix or Whole Foods Market! If you want to wear a bow tie while you shop…my son would approve! Keep going that extra mile for your family everyone!
