If my dad had the DIYZ App and a cell phone when I was a kid, our do it yourself projects would have been much easier! My dad used to ask for my help when I was a kid and I was always his right-hand man. I would gladly give him the screwdriver he needed or the tool that was required. I wouldn’t get it right most of the time, but it still worked. There was something about the personal satisfaction of accomplishing something together that I just couldn’t put into words. Now, with kids of my own, I am doing the same thing…with one problem. I don’t have the confidence in my “Mr. Fix It” skills that my father did. In fact, I find myself intimidated, confused and often lacking the time and energy to get started! When I heard about the DIYZ App (pronounced like “D.I. Wise”), I was curious. Now that I have personally used it to fix a project in my home with ease, there is no end to what I can do!
My wife has been on me for a while to fix our drain. For some reason, one of the dual sinks in our master bathroom was clogged. I had shoved those cleaning rods down it to try and loosen things up, but it just wasn’t doing the trick. It was time to get serious. After downloading the DIYZ App on my iPhone, I was shocked at how easy it was to get started. The DIYZ App features a large library of DIY projects – providing DIYers of all skill levels with step-by-step guides and segmented videos to tackle home improvement projects with confidence and ease. After quickly entering my first name and email, I was ready to start browsing the projects. The plumbing section grabbed my attention and I found the “How To Replace A Drain Trap” project. Success! The difficulty was a beginner level, so it seemed do-able. We got to work.
In an effort to show how easy it was to use the app and perform our job successfully, I filmed my son, Roger, performing the repair. The first step was to remove the existing drain trap from the bottom of the sink. After helping him loosen the slip nuts with my gloves, he was easily able to remove them completely with his little hands. We made sure to have a bucket below to catch the water. After we had the piece removed, we had to grab our materials. Since we were in a rush and wanted to repair the sink that day, we headed to the store to grab the exact size drain trap we needed. It was cool to see that users can shop without having to leave the app! The DIYZ App recommends the proper tools and materials to complete each project, providing the option to easily purchase tools and materials without leaving the app via Amazon.
If there was a road block along the way with the project, the DIYZ Pro Advisors would have been there to help me. These are thoroughly vetted professionals, with years of experience in home repair and remodeling. They’ve seen it all in their experience, and can quickly help any DIYer get the job done themselves. The best part about this feature is that it is free for a limited time!
After we returned from the store, the rest was very easy. As you can see, Roger was dressed up with a bowtie and jacket, as he often does for any occasion. With this being a plumbing project, I was worried that the clothes weren’t appropriate, but other than a little spillage from the drain trap removal, Roger was able to keep himself looking suave and replace the drain trap with no problem.
In the end, it felt great to finish this small project with my son. The DIYZ App also demonstrates the value of rolling up your sleeves by comparing the cost to do-it-yourself versus hiring a professional. With a project like this, it not only saved us time, but enabled us to bond and have fun while doing it. The DIYZ App is free to download and is available in the Apple App Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android. For a limited time, the video chat feature is FREE! Users can chat with DIYZ Pro Advisors from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM ET Monday through Friday. On weekends, DIYZ advisors will be available to help tackle projects from 8:00 AM to 1:00 AM ET.
I look forward to continuing to build on my experience with the DIYZ App. Thanks to the miracle of technology, we can save money, save time, and bond together on some great do-it-yourself projects. What projects are you working on? Download the DIYZ App today and use the hashtags #DIYZ and #GetWise to have your awesome work highlighted by the good folks over at DIYZ.
