It is said that something occurred over 3,000 years ago that we are all very familiar with or at least have heard mention of before…the story of David and Goliath. In the story, David had a sling-shot and slayed the giant Goliath in just one shot. That was his weapon of choice. In today’s world, we try not to resolve conflict in physical fights. And for today’s blog post, David will represent the everyday man…or…me. Who is Goliath you ask? Well, I would tell you, but in the spirit of good sportsmanship, I can’t mention them by name. Nonetheless, the aforementioned giant sent me a cease and desist letter for my old blog.

If this is your first time finding your way to my blog, welcome! My name is Cory and I am a husband, father to three kids under the age of seven, and a vegan athlete. The idea for the blog started back in 2012 when I completed one of the toughest physical and mental challenges of my life. My wife, sister, mother were all there to watch me finish. At the finish, my name was announced and I was a finisher for life. At the time, I had two young children, who were one and three years old. The toughest part of my training and preparation for the challenge was not the constant working out, but rather being a present and participatory father while simultaneously being a loving husband and chef to the family. As a Dad that was competing, I was given a catchy nickname by my kids, which later became the name of my blog. The name indicated that the blog was about more than just being an athlete. I was a husband and father first. A Dad that really cared about his kids and tried to never let his training get in the way of his commitment to his family.

It is said that “It’s not about how hard you fall, but how quickly you get back up.” That is something I want to instill in my kids. Some fights are just not worth fighting. It doesn’t make you a quitter…but it sure does make you stronger. When I got the cease and desist, I decided I was going to learn from this experience and show my kids what true resilience was. So I got to work. I called some friends in high places and asked their advice and immediately started to rebrand my entire site and blog. I had existing sponsors and folks that trusted me to speak about their brand. I was having high level conversations with new brands and even coming on board with a major grocery chain to help them drive business to their stores. Things were going really well and I could not stop my forward progress.

The website you are on right now and the look, feel, photography and color palate were completely rebranded in one week. I have an amazing team of professionals that work with me. I have an incredibly supportive family and my friends…they are like family. So many people helped me re-launch my blog under the name “Lean Green DAD” and I couldn’t be happier. My seven-year-old daughter appears in many of my blog videos and was upset when she overheard me talking about what happened over bluetooth in our minivan. She said to me “Daddy…I need to say something and it is a bad word about how I feel.” I said “ok, sweetie, talk to me…what’s up?” I was worried. What word could she possibly say? The “F” word? The “S” word? Who knows what she has heard in school?! With tears in her eyes and her teeth gritted, she said “This is stupid Daddy…just stupid.” It was the “S” word, but one I could live with! What I didn’t know is that after that conversation from the backseat of our car, she illustrated an entire story on the whole thing over the next few days. While I was running around stressing about the relaunch, she was documenting everything from her secret stash of papers in the third row of our minivan.

Above is the story for you and it warmed my heart. I hope you will enjoy it. The moral to this story, to quote our friend Dory is to “just keep swimming.” “Sometimes things look bad, then poof, the moment is gone, so what do we do? We just keep swimming on!” I could have fought, but all that would have done is breed negativity. I now have a name that is exciting, welcoming and inclusive and the best part about it…I can continue pushing content. My content is for busy people, mostly parents, who have over-scheduled busy lives. My goal is to help them get the most out of their food, family and fun to really enjoy their lives and each other. Welcome to Lean Green DAD™, Fuel For Families!
